Hi all,
Does anyone know if any of the T5's have a taller 5th gear than any of the others? I'm thinking that with the M90 installed, I'll have the grunt for a taller top speed (better economy).. or at least the same as I'm getting now with the auto and 3.27 diff (gonna change to 3.45 soon) I know that some E series 5 speeds had different 1st ratios.. but what about 5th speed? alternatively, how hard would it be to change the gears on 5th? I've played with motorX bike boxes, but not cars.. Be nice to have the benefit of 3.45 diff and manual for track time.. and the tall 5seed for cruisen... any thoughts? rgds Frank |

if you are going manual id stick with the 3.27. perfect ratio for a sporty and cruisy manual. the manual ratio is a little shorter in 5th than the auto remember, man= .72 iirc, auto= .68. so with a manual replacement and same diff gears you will run slightly more rpm on the highway.
with a s/c id even experiment going with some highway diff gears, like 2.7's, coz the t5 1st is still a loooot shorter than the auto's. manual+3.45's with a s/c would be an a** in the wet with anymore than part throttle.

Hey mate,
I have an EA T5 in my gli at the moment. It has the std 3.08 diff and sits on exactly 2000 rpm @ 100kmh. that goes up to about 2250ish at 110. But i will be putting an ED T5 into my car shortly and ill get back to ya about the difference.

Ok.. good to know..
I was going to change the diff to 28 spline anyway, figured if I didn't, I'd blow it soon enough with the SC anyway.. now not sure what to do as I had a EB XR6 3.45 LSD lined up to go in.. perhaps I'll leave the 25/3.27:1 in place for a while after the EL/M90 motor and T5 to see what the gearing will be like.. I need a six speed. |

Never pulled a diff apart... I'd rather hoped I'd never have to either..
someone needs to invent electronically switchable diff ratios.. like hi and low range on a 4x4... 2.8 for cruising and 4.11 for when you want to stomp on a commodore. |

3.27 to 3.45 is a very small difference, I wouldn't worry.
I went from 3.45's to 3.08's in an EL I had and I got worse fuel economy than before. Lower revs doesn't always equal less fuel consumption. Load plays a part too. |

deffinately, i went from a 2.92 to a 3.23 and got better economy also.

2.8 for cruising and 4.11 for when you want to stomp on a commodore. Try a Joey Box. Worked a treat on the B61 Mack and may other old trucks from the US. It would just be recycling old technology. But don't worry, every one does it ... the Model T has individual coils ... it's back big time now. |

Hey mate,
Just finished putting in the ED T5 into my gli with 3.08 diff. It has dropped by about 150-200rpm at 100 kmh. Hope that Helps???
