Hey guys,
This is probably a stupid idea but here goes: When my 5-speed eventually goes in I'm going to have a spare transmission cooler. Rather than removing it I was thinking about making it an engine oil cooler. Firstly would the transmission cooler be suitable as an enigne oil cooler or not (different design theory?) Secondly where would I get an oil filter sandwhich adpapter from so that I could hook it up easily? It wouldn't be hard to do provided I could find the oil filter adapter, but is it a stupid idea or not? Cheers. |

any half decent car parts shop will be able to get hold of an sandwich plate for you.....
i dont see any problem with using an external trans cooler as a engine oil cooler

not sure how you would go with the difference in pressures from a transmission to engine oil.

High volume oil pump might be needed.

you could alway go for a remote oil filter that way you don't have to have less filter |

not really necessary for just the cooler

you use a take off plate where the filter used to go and a new filter block mounted almost any where you want then high pressure lines from the take plate to the filter block then to the cooler then back to take off plate.
when we do it at work we use speedflow fitting and speedflow stainless braided lines |

Cool. So how much are those fittings worth?
I'd love to move the oil filter to a better location. And thanks for your advice too btw. |

And thanks for your advice too btw. we use billet alloy take off plates and filter blocks. the hose is $30/m and the fittings for the job would come in near $150. there are other cheaper fittings and hose, we use speed flow because it looks profesional and we have never had a leak with properly assembled fittings. Some home assembled stuff has leaked but all was fixed with one of our staff redoing the job. |
