My mate has the one the same one just last years model. Few slight differences but it's really easy to use once you learn all the functions on how to work the ipod. I have just bought the 9886 which i believe is a much nicer unit and comes with a remote as well.

Yeh i used to have an Alpine and the sound quality was very good then i changed to a dvd player and ive always wanted to go back. The Alpine was much clearer and my sub sounded a lot better. Much punchier bass. It has an overall great sound quality and out of all the brands ive heard it's by far the best. Also with the ipod the sound quality is amazing.

I've only ever owned Alpine but I've listened to a lot of other brands. Pioneer, Hertz, JBL, Eclipse and Kenwood to name a few. In my opinion, which is purely opinion, Alpine are the best for SQ.

Alpine are all hard to use, but good units once you figure out how eveything on them works. :D

What amps/sub/speakers are you planning to use? The Alpine deck is an excellent choice, don't ruin it with sub-standard amps and speakers.

I'm matching the 9886i deck with MB Quart Premium front components, Discus co-axial rears and a Rockford 4x100W amp.
