i have just purchased a 1998 EL Fairmont and have found a set of 19" chrome rims for a very very good price, the only problem is that the offset is wrong.

does anyone know if there is a way that i can make them fit without using spacers. or would it be possible to find some post AU axles and have them fitted to my car?

With spacers, the idea is sound, but unfortunately most of them are s**t quality. The material is usually very soft where the bolts tighten up, and eventually wears away and causes movement to the spacer.... then snapped studs/loss of wheel etc.

They are still illegal, buy a set of rims in the correct offset.

I had similar issues with my EF. I had 22mm spacers (and longer wheel studs). I snapped studs, and kept chewing through wheel bearings. Mine was due to the pressure/weight being on the wheel studs themselves, and not on the hub as they should be. I am confident that other people would have experienced similar issues.
In the end I got a new set of rims that are the correct fitment for my car. I have not had any issues since.

Sharpy, a quick search could have answered your question.

Spacers/hub adaptors are illegal, rendering you car unroadworthy and probably uninsured.

if you get them, make sure they have a locater lip.
and if the rims are AU/BF offset you need 30-35mm spacers.
Pre AU = 0 to 6mm pos offset
AU + = 36mm pos offset.

to be honest the rims and mods ive done to it r probs worth more than the car and i havnt insured them so im not too fazed about insurance, i just dont want to have any problems with handling or damage to any other parts of the car just for the sake of some cheap rims.
