Hey i have a XR6 EL its has be lowered to superlow height and i get a vibbration in the back when traveling 90 to 100k's and worst when people in the back. im thinking it may be the tailshaft but too sure atm and its never been out. thanks

Since the car is now lowered, the chassis is closer to the diff. So it could either be your exhaust hitting the diff or something due to less clearance, or your tailshaft may require a rebalance since the tailshaft now sits closer to the tailshaft tunnel, though it shouldn't make much of a difference I think if the car is lowered or not. It could also be wheels...might need them aligned.

I am not sure if it's at fault though...just some suggestions. I was told that the tailshaft does sit closer to the chassis, not sure if it will cause any vibrational problems though...I surely didn't. phong =P~

This is often actually caused by the change in Diff angle due to lowering.
I cant remember if theres a workaround - if its an XR there may be an additional set of holes on the diff to correct. I believe it is there on EL's Nigel |

The driveshaft is likely to be ok. Since you have lowered the car to superlows you have altered the pinion angle. Being an XR6 the upper trailing arms should be approx 350mm between bolt holes and a bump stop just above the front of the diff. If they are the stock 320mm EL upper trailing arms change to XR type and if no bump stop as described you must put one in otherwise the rear of the driveshaft will hit the floor. If already the XR type upper trailing arms check the bushes for wear. Also did you fit shortened shocks?

yeah i have replace bushes with nolathane bushes and i have shorter shocks in the rear aswell. so do i need change the pinion angle on the diff to fix this, cause there is another hole on the diff where i can.

No the different holes are for the different trailing arms. There is one more thing that it could be. Its possible that the rear universal joint cross has worn slightly (grooves worn in from needle rollers) now that its working in a different position it could be causing the vibration/humming. If the vibration wasnt there before lowering the driveshaft does not need balancing. If you need a hand with replacing the UJ's let me know.

The vibration is caused by the alteration of the pinion angle due to lowering.
The only way it can be fixed is by altering the pinion angle, which has been outlined by jools |
