Helpful buggers hey!.
Actually from memory you can adjust the preload a little. Also check the arm on the passenger side. Balljoints also go bad very very often on x-series. I dont agree with what the guys have all said - I had an XD with power steer out of an xf and it was very, very nice. Nigel |

I adjusted the p/s box on my XG and it made a big improvement. I think the XF box is different, but imagine it still has the same type of adjustability. You need to adjust it the right way or else you can damage/destroy it. If you want to go this way i can give instructions.

The XF & XG steering boxes are the same. To properly adjust the steering box, it must be removed so that proper feel can be felt. There are 2 adjustments. Also the the top bushing can be worn out, and a later innervation top cover with a needle roller bearing last a lot longer. Also check condition of the Pitman arm and Idler arm. There are several other things to check for wear too. Also, the Caster setting in different for power steer than manual steer when doing a wheel alignment.
