Hey modders, just wondering how epic the job is of replacing my EF's 4 litre with an AU 200kw v8. Is it a fairly strait forward caper? Anyone here done and is there any good realiable types in Vic u can trust to do a drive in drive out style conversion? If it's not too hardcore i'm guessing it won't cost an an arm and a leg in labour costs. Does the AU 5 speed fit? Sorry for throwing a heap of sh!t at u guys, but any help that can be provided would be nice.

You will require a V8 engine loom + ECU, K - frame..
The 6cyl T5 box won't bolt straight up, afew people have changed the input shaft and bellhousing so they can be fitted, but with a 220kw windsor behind it, the torque may be abit much for it.. You'd be better off finding a complete car, so you can swap all the components over! Hope that helps slightly mate.

the au 5spd wont fit from the v8 either as the extension housing is longer. it will put the shifter to far back..

heaps easier with a whole car, i put the running gear from a el2 xr8 into my ef 4l.
also you wont need the kframe on ef-el. 6cyl and v8 kframes are the same

Hey thanks for the replies gents, sounds like a full wrecked v8 Falcon is the go so all is there for a convesrion...might be easier to sell my car and get an 8 maybe..Reckon this could be a pretty straight forward conversion for a mechanical workshop, thus keeping huge labour costs down if I provided say a wrecked Ef/L XR8?

Mate, its a buyers market out there, and there seem to be tonnes of V8 Fairmonts and Fairlanes that you could pick up for a song. Some of them have seen better days, but if you aren't in a hurry, keep looking and you will find.

I'd just buy another car. I was going to do the same thing as you when i had my old ef fairmont but sold it and bought an el fairmont V8 with manunal conversion. No stress, no hassles, and it was 2k changeover, and i got a newer car with less kms and a few mods. If you can get the parts cheap and fit them yourself it still may be worth doing
