I want to replace the existing central locking system in an AU (Series One) with the appropriate Jaycar kit.
Can anyone confirm if the EL Tech. Doc. on FordMods would also be applicable to the AU? |

no..... AU's have central clocking integrated into the lock mech as oppose to the earlier series being seperate.....
pity as central locking in AU+ are crap and are prone to breaking

If its built prior to May '99 they still run Smartlock so if thats the case you can do it.

whats wrong with the au central locking?

its the same lock as the BA's and they break all the time i've had my car 3 years and replaced 7 door locks.
I am now thinking about retro fitting the door locking system from a before may 99 Au

I had an auto electrician friend take a quick look at my problem and he thinks the B.E.M. or Instrument Cluster may be causing my problems as all four of my doors do not lock correctly. When connected to the diagnostic scanner all doors are showing closed when they are actually open.
The car is a series 1 with Smartlock. I might look at going somewhere that has a special on central locking and just asking them to remove the existing factory system and fit an aftermarket system, it may end up cheaper in the long run. |

the door locks for the early AU's are still the same. its just the smartlock that is different.

just buy one and put it in yourself its only a $50 kit. Only problem is the actuators need to be placed right or they won't lock properly and will unlock again.
In this case get a photo or better yet have a look at an AU with the old style actutors (if you don't have this type already) and see where the factory one's are fitted

It's usually a little plastic gear that brakes in them. I've fixed a few and while it is easy to do, finding a spare cog is the difficult bit!
Later model ones (can't remember if it's BA2 or BF) are stronger and are less prone to breakage. You can buy these new from Ford, along with an adapter loom for an extra $12 to plug into the AU. |

I ended up replacing the drivers door mechanism (plastic screw/gear had snapped) with a new mechanism from Ford.
I have done something wrong, I think I failed to connect one of the rods inside the front passenger door, now it can't be opened from inside or out. I need to find a way to get the door open as I can't remove the trim without having the door open. Any ideas? Althought it's probably not a good idea to post break-in instructions on a forum, hehe. |

Thank you for your replies and assistance.
I managed to remove the front LHS door trim with the door closed, therefore, I was able to manipulate the locking mechanism to allow me to open the door. I disassembled the actuator and found that the motor seems to be faulty. I found a complete mechanism on eBay ($61.99 including registered post)which will suit so hopefully my problems will be over soon. |

way back in Fordmods Mk1 there was going to be a tech doco about putting in the VT comodore locking into EF's .. dunno if any body did it but it was possible...
