This has probably been done 1000 times before but this is gonna be number 1000 and 1
I want to install a mid-series cluster into my EL GLi. I found the Hi-Series Conversion doco in the tech section but need to know what to do for the Mid-Series. I know how to pull out my dash and so forth but do I need to install an Oil Pressure sender and something to transmit Battery Power to the cluster or is everything already hooked up? Reason for asking is that in my EB I had to hook up the Oil Sender, cant remember if I did the Battery Sender or not though. Anyone know what I have to do? All you require is the oil sender, the power meter well obviously gets its power to work and gauges that.
I'm pretty sure theres 6cyl and 8cyl versions in EB-ED models.

Yep, according to the doco I just found (http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=14) that's correct.
Where abouts is the oil pressure sender located though?? By the sounds of it I need to add a sensor onto the coolant box, yeah? |

yeah add the coolant level sensor into the side of the header tank. it screws right in.
the oil pressure sender is on the side of the engine block under the inlet manifold somewhere (i dont know exactly where as i havent seen one in person) so yeah, swap from switch to sender. other one is i think there is a windscreen washer bottle low level light on the cluster, and you may need to do something for that too. i am looking into it myself atm as i've got an NF cluster tp go in |

Ok I'm now faced with a new problem, getting the back panel off the cluster... anyone got any ideas?

trying to get the back panel of the cluster off?
what part exactly are you trying to get out? its easy to get the cluster out itself. you take off the dark grey surround that runs down the centre console and around the stereo. once this bit is off completely there is four screws that hold the actual cluster in place. unplug the two plugs, pull it out and then swap, reverse is this what you mean? |

also you need to add the resister to the circuit board to illuminate the odometer lcd display etc

Ok done and done. Realised that the last 2 screws where on the inside of the cluster itself and after I took them off it just poped out
Resistor all soldered and ready to go. I'll post some pics up of my design after I load them up. Going for the Black/Green theme, it's gonna go heaps go. Looks awesome IMO. |
