Hi,
Got a real scare on monday when I went out to go shopping.I'd just left home, and the engine in my '95 ute started over revving for no apparent reason. As soon as I heard it starting to race away,I just turned it off,but managed a quick look at the tacho, and it was heading towards 3,500 odd revs. Luckily I wasn't in any traffic,so I pulled up,flicked the throttle body linkage a couple of times, and away it went as per normal, and it hasn't done it again.I'm just worried that it will occur again when I am in traffic, and can't pull over,or have a prang. This is the first time since I bought the ute new it's ever done this.Would anyone have any ideas as to what would cause this to happen? Cheers, Kevin. |

the ute is auto correct?
i only had this happen to me once (not in a falcon tho).. and that was after it was in the shop for a tune.. the bloke clip for the kickdown cable had came off. thus making the car accelerating away down the street.. i threw it in neutral and turned it off popped the hood and noticed it straight away. the tried to blame it on the car.. but they were the ones fiddling with it 2 minutes earlier. just check to make sure its not sticky or anything.. spray some lubey stuff into the top of the cable.. and play with the throttle to let the oil run down the line. hope that helps in anyway.

Hi P100 Ute,
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. My '95 Longreach Outback is a 5 speed manual, and so far(fingers crossed),this problem hasn't happened again, after I went into town this morning.I'll do what you suggest and spray some lube down the accelerator cable & onto the throttle body shaft, and see what happens. It's going in for a tune up tomorrow,so I'll see if the problem has left a fault warning on the computer. Cheers, Kevin. |

Were you under the bonnet recently? Could have bumped the acc cable if you were.
If not then it might be ISC/ECU related. |

Hi krisisdog,
Thanks for the reply. The last time I had the bonnet up was just to do the usual oil/water/battery checks.I don't remember bumping the accelerator cable, but I'll check it to make sure.Other than that,I'll see if the tune up reveals anything. Cheers, Kevin. |
