hey i just put a second hand engine in my ef. when i started it up and it sounds like a rattling timing chain. can i fix it myself and if not how much around abouts would a shop charge me to do it.

Take it back out. Rmove the sump, rocker cover and timing cover.
Replace the chain and put back together.
Make sure you fit the timing chain tensioner correctly.

a shop would charge you heaps, as the sump & k-frame has to be lowered to removed the timing cover if im not mistaken, thats leaving the engine in the car.... hence the reason why madmatt said to pull the engine out

Might be a snapped timing chain guide, could be a problem with the tensioner or chain....... might as well spend $110 on a new timing chain kit which comes with new tensioner, 3 guides, chain & gaskets

looks like the cam swap will have to wait :)

oh yay lol i wasnt really sure what the noise was. then a mate up the road said his made the same noise. so i wasnt to sure what it was lol but then found out it was my bottom flex plate, it was bent to s**t. so now i need to get a new flex plate any one have one.

fordfairmont- im saving up the dow to get it. iv got a big pay coming in next tuesday so ill prob send you the money to get started. but yeah ill talk to you then.

what the hell is going on with people thinking its their chain and then it turns out to be a torque convertor or flex plate problem...galapiogs01 did the exact same thing a few days ago!!!
