i got some decent 2nd hand units today and intend installing them tomorrow.
my question is how important is it to align the end of the top coil with the notch in the top bracket? i don't really won't to try and find someone to take them apart if i don't have to.

in the ea manual it says to line up the end of the top coil with the ^ shaped notch in the end cap thing with the 3 bolt posts on it.
the units i got today aren't lined up as it says, but i think i can get them in with a bit of twisting of the lower mount. will that effect it.

With standard coils the top end of the coil should line up with the notch in the top plate. If it doesn't line up, neither will the bottom. They should be fixed.
If the coils are non-standard, that's a different matter.

different matter but do they have to line up?
i'm guessing the same theory still applies...

Non-standard coils might not have a number of turns of the wire that sees the ends in the right places. If not, then you prioritise the bottom end, because the step there is larger and there is either no rubber or only thin rubber there. The top ends up where it does, and the thick rubber there accomodates for the irregularity.
