Unlucky, you must have one of the last EF's. Ford in their infinite wisdom deleted the transmission dipstick in the later model EF.

Anyhoo, there is a filler plug on the side of the gearbox right next to a hot exhaust haha, that is where you fill the transmission AND check the level. Good luck and maythe force be with you.

Any Dexron3 oil will be fine, for example; Shell ATF XTR, Castrol TQ95 and so-on.

either with a small piece of tubing running from the engine bay with a funnel or get one of those pump things with the hook that the mechanics use

Use Castrol TQ95. You can purchase a plunge type pump with a 1 ltr bottle (costs around $20). Takes a little longer than syphoning or pouring into a funnel and hose but theres no mess as you are pumping from under the car where you can see.

Feed a long hose through the engine bay down to the filler hole...making sure engine is not burning hot as to melt the hose.

Jam one end of the hose into the filler hole (assuming the hose is just a tad smaller then the hole) and then put a funnel on the other end. Pour down funnel and watch the Dextron 3 oil go in. Put newspaper/old rag/catch bucket, underneath the filler hole, so to catch any over filling.

I used a hose that was just right for the filler plug, but too small for the funnel, taped the funel end of the hose with heaps of tape to make it wider and fed it through the funnel before I fed it down through the engine bay...works a treat.

phong =P~

Isn't Dextron3 completely different to the others you mentioned???
I've always been told specifically NOT to use Dextron3 in these boxes, and that's why pretty much all the oil manufacturers have specific ATFs for the 4speed BTR gearbox, ie. Castrol TQ95, Valvoline LE95, etc.

never ever use anything other than tq95 or its equivalent in a BTR 4 speed.
