Hi guys i've got a 2001 AUII xr6 VCT Manual & recently the greabox has been really lagging in the revs department.
At first it wasn't too bad, if the engine's under a little stress (going up hills, putting the foot down) as the revs are climbing it starts to jolt a little bit trying to get to the high revs, It's almost as though a cylinder is misfiring but it's fine when it's in neutral.. But as of yesterday it seemed to have been fked cuz it's an effort just getting to 60km/h.. It feels as though its bunny hopping its way up the revs & when it gets to about 2500rpm the revs pretty much start to slip & it seems no power is getting through.. I'm not very up to speed with this sort of thing & just need to know if any ones got any ideas on what it is & does anyone know any good gearbox specialists around the Sydney North Shore area??? Any quick help would be much appreciated as i don't wanna drive the thing until i know what's going on. Cheers

sounds like u may be in to high a gear
have u tried changing down a gear or 3? and been a manual i doubt there is a g/box drama id be more looking towards the ign or fuel system your car may be due for a set of plugs and leads and maybe a fuel injector clean remember a engine will perform differently under load than when in neutral

Nah it happens no matter where i am in the rev range it starts slipping further up the revs.
I was thinkin maybe clutch problems.. Would it still be the ign or fuel if it's fine in neutral? Either way you reckon i should just get it to a mechanic?

what gear are u in? and is it under load ie going up a steep hill?
going up a hill in 5th is a bad idea u need to change back down to 3rd i would say if u are doing this and the revs climb while u mainting a speed the clutch could be slipping yes u should take it to a mechanic!

i think what they're getting at is that either you're driving it wrong or the problem you're describing is not the gearbox but something engine related.
my guess is it's either ignition related or your map sensor is unplugged or damaged. |

Turns out it's the iginition coil thats gone..
Apparently it'll be around $200+ for a new bosch coil & i wanted to get some decent leads cause they need replacing anyway.. I asked how much 8mm would be, dunno which ones though but they're saying around $100.. Any other ideas of what i could be using instead? I've read up on a few things and some coils range around the $70.. Cheers

well u have a coil pack with 6 coils in it
not 1 coil and the $200 would be with labour to replace as well
