the mate i got my car off wanted to pay for me and a mate to go to the drags to see is i could beat my mates EL XR6 in my ED. In my opinion the XR6 will win but was wanting to know what other people think. My ED is N/A and 100% stock as a rock. The EL is N/A and has extractors and 2 1/2" sports exhaust other then that it's stock, But has minor gear box probs and both the falcons are auto.
So if ya keep in mind the weight of the cars and the power of the engines what do other people think would win?

Cheers.

More power, stuff all more weight, and a better diff ratio + LSD should see you beaten comfortably.

What ratio do you have though?

LSD in XRs are 3.45, your would be something like 2.92 or 3.08. Best mod you could do would be drop some 4.11s in. You'll do 60 in first, and 100 in second. I'd say with that mod alone youd beat him.

Why dont people ever do the opposite, go actually race something then report back on it instead of hypothetical questions..

Mate, 4.11s in an auto wont make stuff all difference to your fuel economy - it will sit on around 2300/2400rpm at 100, and I would say it would use less fuel around town.

My ex-ED did 15.9 with what appeared to be a pressbent 2.5" catback of unknown origin.
Only other mod was no airbox lid, no filter and a leaking headgasket.

Point being, way too many variables to answer this question, just like all the other "versus" threads!
Race him and find out.

yes production tolerances do still exist. some do seem to be freakish. 15.9 from a ed with catback, that should go down in some sort of record book!

even with a dodgy converter or slipping box the xr would have you. even if his was stock and you had the extractors and exhaust he would still win, as xr's have a very good torque curve, and get moving right from the get go without letup. the peak isnt all that high, but the curve is the magic. add the 3.45 diff and he would have to blow his gearbox to bits to loose this one.

about 1 second at the line will be the differnce.

What happens if your mate sells his car and buys an XR6T ?

Mate, forget about who's car is faster in a straight line.
Just be happy with your car.
And if your not, mod it until you are or sell it for something you will be happy with.

There's always going to be someone out there who is going to have something that's better, quicker, nicer than yours.

By the way, my money would be on the EL by two or three car lengths at the end of the quarter.

I reckon the EL by half a second.

But freak cars do exist, for some strange reason a good launch and a nice cold night can yield a good time. Last season there was a near bog stock EF GLI down the motorplex, he ran a few 15.5's, auto standard gears, standard exhaust, only thing he'd done was a service and a K+N Pod Filter.

15.8 with a stock standard ef fairy..
dead even with a stock ef xr8 3 times

about 2 years ago tho

no freak cars, just healthy well maintained ones and the average car.

no one can say who will win as we dont no exactly how bad the tranny is.
but if both were in good cond id say 15.6 for the xr and .7 slower for you
