Hi all,
I am in a spot of bother at the moment with what to do, currently driving a XG falcon ute late 1993 which is in need of a engine rebuild. choice number 1 rebuild current engine. Choice number 2 upgrade to a later model engine if i decide to upgrade, does anyone have any suggestions as to which would be the choice of engine, my preference would be BA but i need to no what is involved to make this happen if at all possible.....
Has anyone done this??????
All input much appreciated......

ok ba motor no go unless u go with an after market ecu which buying motor doing all the wiring aftermarket ecu ect = big money.

my suggestion is wack an au donk in there (not vct), heaps stronger motor and all u will need to do is change the loom connections and either mod the sump or cut a lil bit out of the k-frame. unless utes are diff???

or if your a little bit handy with ya hands rebuild it yourself. i did the top of mine with my dad and its pretty easy just time consuming.

Unless you really like the car i suggest finding another running XG/EB/ED motor. Cost say $200 plus consumables.

If you know how to rebuild a motor or really want to learn how, then there is that option, and you should end up with something dependable. Cost say $1300 plus consumables.

If you like the car and modding, then i say go for an AU conversion. Cost say $1200 plus consumables. Reliable and economical, and easy to get more power from if you want to go that way.

If you really like revving, a BA is a complex option. Cost say $4500 installed and running, so i've read anyway.

Cheers for the adive, its looking like a rebuild after reading your posts, I really like the car and over the years have spent some serious money on it. so i think a rebuild is the best option for reliability.

Tocchi has an F6 Typhoon motor in his XG.... it slotted straight in i believe.

as people have said though, to go down that path costs a bit, probably a few grand.

You could just sell your XG and get a AU or BA ute?

If you don't do the work yourself the cost of getting your motor removed and replaced would be around $550, the cost of parts to rebuild around the $1300 mark, and the labour to rebuild i've forgotten. It's around $2500 exchange with a 12mths warranty, not sure if that includes labour.

Just a small extra note, if you got an AU motor from a reputable wrecker, for only say $50 extra you can get a 6mths parts and labour warranty, and work can be done by a mechanic of your choice.

yes, it bolted straight in. but prices quickly add
eg: T56 ($4k), Motec M800 ($4k), 6boost manifold (stock doesnt fit, $1.2k)
etc. and thats just 1/4 of the install

keep the XG 4.0L .. put a BBM on it, put a cam in it, put 2.5" exhaust and extractors on. etc
