Went to the drags on Friday night to watch my mate take his new toy out for his first run ever (LJ Torana, 400+ci NA, proven mid 8 second passes). After the first run I overheard his crew chief saying for the next run they were going to wind up the transbrake for a harder launch. Now I know the basics of how a transbrake works so I was a bit baffled by all of this talk.

Basically I'm assuming that they have programmed a hard rev limiter into the ignition module when the transbrake has been activated. The theory is that they can adjust the ignition cut to set the launch rpm (as it has such a high stall speed) to suit track conditions and driver confidence.

Is my assumption right or is there more to it then that?

Never heard of such a thing. From what i know of transbrakes, they are dependant on stall speed, and are brutal on gearboxs of activated for too long. They heat the fluid up astronomically.

The guy has a stall speed of around 6000+rpm but he was leaving the line at what sounded like 3500-4000.

It definitely sounded like it had a 3500rpm limiter during stage.
