Can you get your standard ECU reprogramed or a power chip or something put in to give it a bit more power? i been told you can, true?? Im running the EL Tickford ECU. And if so how much and where a good place in Melbourne?? Yes you can get a chip to get abit more power, depend's what one you want, i'd go for the POWERCHIP GOLD98, just ring or get on there web site, and tell them what you have and what you want. They will also ask you for a catch code, which is on your ECU (behind passenger kick panel), it will be a four digit code, and it should be( if my research is correct!), for the auto 6TBD,and the manual--6TAD... Just double check it first and tell them your code, be prepared to pay for it mate, they are abit pricey now!!!, but when you put them in, you will be happy!!! If you have any trouble just ask one of us, there's a couple of other guy's running the POWERCHIP aswell, i'm sure they'll be glad to help. Hope this help's you, Cheers Jason. |

its more likely that the sensors (air temp, oxy, MAP) wear out over time
for example, the oxy (4 wire preheated in a falc) is only rated for about 100,000k. then its just about shagged

Your not going to get much from a chip on a near standard car - and yes, bigger wheels, an exhaust and K&N air filter are still pretty close to standard.
Spend the money on other mods first - e.g. extractors, cam, headwork, the standard ECU will happily run all these fine. Half the time with these piggy back chips there just a generic tune any how picked by some sales person, loaded onto the chip which in then sent to you, so they're not specific or unique for your car. 51 also raises a good point, your ECU can only make it's decisions based on what the sensors tell it, so shagged sensors don't help the situation with old EFI cars either. |
