Hi Guys, I bet the topic got your attention hehe.
Well we all know the E-Series XR Bonnet vents are f**k stupid, draining water into the bonnet lining completely f**k it over time... in my case, I've had to remove sections of mine around the vent catchtrays to get some added clearance for induction components, but now the vents just drain water into the engine bay. The plan is to use some garden variety black retic hoses and elbows to plumb up a better drainage system. I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there who has done something similar to thier car already. Might do up a tech doco if it turns out good in the end EDIT: Apologies mods, can this be moved to Exterior modifications forum? Thanks. |

Did they come with bonnet lining? Mine has never had any since I got it. I've taken the black underside section off the vents to allow a bit of hot air to get out of the engine bay. I don't know if it makes any difference though.
I'd never thought about being too much of a prob in the engine bay as it'd just dry out. Would you run a hose or tube up the bonnet so you didn't have anything hanging down when you open the bonnet, or just have a catch bowl or something above the airbox and battery?

Taking off the catchtrays would give you a venturi effect I guess, but at the cost of having bigger "speedholes" for water to drain into. Mine had a lining. After 12 years odd of water damage it was screwd, so cut away the damaged sections from around the vent catchtrays. Normally I guess it wouldn't be an issue, but I have a maf and airbox sitting underneath the drain holes now which poses an issue. (And drivers side drainholes drain disturbingly close to alternator if you ask me) I believe Tocchi had some issues with it too on his XR6T.

i was going to do somthing similar on my el but instead im getting a fiberglass bonnet without the xr vents, that'l fix that problem
mine didnt have the lining either and i never noticed much water geting in even when washing the car by handbut the small amount that did get in was bugging me, it started some surface rust under the battery box that wasnt wanted.

Mine leaks a very small amount too.
Maf and water isnt a good thing, I have my pod filter in the passenger guard, on a rainy day when the filter gets a bit wet (from the wheel arch cover being damaged) it can affect the cars performance. When I hit boost at say 3000 it sucks enough moisture to affect it, pretty much the car can cut out for a fraction of a second.

nah good mining is when they drag up 12month or more, the biggest mine I can remember was someone dragging up November 2004, can't go any further than that with FM V2
