Hey guys, today whilst driving i lost braking (thank f**k the roundabout was clear) i was slowing down to take the corner and my brakes suddenly went hard and did f**k all in terms of braking..now it just feels like when the car is off and u try and brake..

I went to cms and he says its most likely to be the brake booster..can anyone confirm this is the problem?

A enw booster is about $250 plus labour..

its also got a hissing noise coming from near the brake pedal, and on close inspection the master cylinder appears to be leaking (paint peeling underneith it)

Yep, would be a split brake booster. A_Total_tool has done 2 over recent times in his EL Ghia.

You don't need to use a new one, see if you can get a suitable one from a wreckers etc.

And then fabricate some kind of heat sheild for the booster.

yes brake booster

the hissing u are hearing is from the air entering the booster which is under vaccum

Yes, when the booster goes at the wrong place and time you just have to stand on the pedal with as much force as you can. Brace against the seat, and maybe pull upwards on the steering wheel.
