I have a set of tickford springs for my car but want it lower still, what should it cost to have the springs compressed? anyone done this before on their AU and how did it ride with compressed springs?
Cheers

You cannot compress a spring without remaking it or cutting it. Either way is not the way to go.
Just get a set of superlow springs and sell the tickford ones to help with the bill.

By the sounds of it, i think you should start looking at Airbags if you want it to scrape over every bump and squash ants.

nah i dont want it dumped hard on the ground but i want it to sit the top of the guard at least level with the top of the tyre or with a little bit of rubber in the guards. one of the guys on here has king ultra's and koni's and its still too damn high.

there is a place in adelaide that reset springs. i think its about $80/pr. because the length and guage of steel doesn't change the spring rate remains the same. most lowered springs will be slightly stiffer due to thicker steel and usually less coils.
measure from the centre of your hub to where you want it to sit and then ring a kings specialist and see if they have a spring to suit. they do many sizes off the shelf.

I have had stock springs reset and stiffened before, and from memory it wasn't that expensive, but sorry can't remember exactly how much it was.
King springs suck, but its convenient to fit them, having said that, i dont have them as as you say, they just NOT low. Andrew

That's a crucial point. The lower you go the stiffer you need the coils so you don't bottom out too much. Getting a coil heated, compressed and then retreated won't increase the spring rate and may lead to too much bottoming. Cutting the springs however does increase the spring rate. If the falcon springs are cut at the bottom end, cut without undue heating, cut systematically to achieve the desired ride height, and afterwards remain tight at full suspension droop, that is an okay way to do things. But to be legal every part of the car excluding the wheels has to be a minimum of 100mm off the ground. Still too low in my opinion, but anyway.

I have supers on my EA.. (kings) and the thing rubs the guards around corners at speed, and I've hit my cat converter on speed bumps...
Depends what model ford it is I guess but I'd rather the EA was 1 inch higher off the ground for usability reasons.. |

I agree with relaxed & GTbob, the problem is they just run out of travel Quickly, so if you want your tailshaft smashing through the floor, trailing arms hitting body work go ahead, it will be on the bumpstops already so just pull the coils completely out. Seeings you are in Carrum Downs though, can you post your REG so i can keep my family away. People have to realise vehicles just like people " Gots to know their limitations"
