Get your alternator checked out. If you have a multimeter, turn the engine on and take a voltage reading across the battery, if it's about 13 - 14.4v then youre alternator is fine, if it's anything near 12 then alternator is busted.

while it is running, it might be an alternator issue as Phong said. In regards to the battery going flat after a day of non-use, there may be something that is still running after the turn the ignition off. I had an issue with my EF where the battery would not have enough power to kick the car over after I left it sitting there for 2 weeks or more (as my parts car, it was not started often). It turned out that the Trip comp shorted out, and the backlight would not turn off. There might be something that is still running that should not be.

The alternator can also discharge the battery if the internal diodes short. In effect if the belt was removed from the alternator it may spin from the battery power.
