earlier today i had the car at bout 40km/h in 2nd and it started to splutter a bit, got home and cleaned the air filter, i dont know if that is related at all but what can i do to stop the car running rich, i mean is there anything i can adjust myself or should i go to ultratune or somewhere like that? cheers

take it back to who ever programed the chip or what ever it is you have in there and tell them to do it properly.
or if it's some that has just started to happen you need to track down the faulty parts |

I think my XG is running rich as well.
exhaust tip is black ... and i can smell fuel when I come to a stop at lights ... but car is not spluttering at all and is running smooth. Not sure if it's using excess fuel cos I only just bought the car the other day ... no leaks either. Factory ECU as well ... only mods are a 2.5" cat-back exhaust.

If the petrol smell you can smell smells (bloody hell that sounds odd) like the petrol that comes out of the bowser, then it hasn't gone through the engine and there will be a leak somewhere.
If there is a leak, it can often be hard to find because the petrol evapourates so quickly. |

What I'll do is let the car sit .... and give it a few good long revs ... while looking under the bonnet ... it seems to happen after I have given the car a bit ... so I am hoping to find something ... doesn't make it easy when the intake manifold is so large and cumbersome to try and look around.
