My EB is leaking power steering fluid from the switch or sender on the base of the steering rack. This is the second switch in a matter of months can anyone tell me what this switch does and can it safely be replaced by a bolt? Or do I have a bigger problem than just a broken switch? Any help on this would be a great help thanks.

Thsi switch is for when you are parking the engine will idle up when steering hardly. I have not had one in, or the ICS it controls for ages. A bung will be fine, a bolt will not.

It tells the ECU when the steering is being turned so it can bump up the idle to compensate for extra load from PS pump.
I blocked mine off and never had any issues.

Most people run auto trans fluid in their p/s, but i have been told you should run proper steering fluid, which provides better lubrication. The important point here is it is also thicker, which may mean less problems with leaks. Not to say that it should substitute for proper maintenance.

I run auto fluid in mine and have never had a problem.

You may not notice a problem but it may still wear quicker and hence provide less assistance quicker.
