I did the whole thinkg and swapped from an EA ECU and seperate TCU to an EL ECU. Everything goes pretty dam good but the changes are rough as s$%#. Anyone got any ideas?
Trans was fine before conversion. Now it slams from first to second, and does the same from 3rd to 4th but with a bit of a free rev inbetween. Searched the forums for days on end and can't figure it out as yet...

I would consider re-checking the fluid level. If the trans loses fluid i always spend time idling in each gear to ensure all the passages fill up again. The trans can seem full and then some oil finds a new home and you need to refill. Have you replaced the trans filter recently?
Is your trans electrically compatible with the EL ecu, do you have wiring diagrams for both, if not consider getting a manual for each and check.

did you keep the ea tcm? or have you re-wired the wires from the trans to the el ecu??
if you have re wired the wires from the trans to the el ecu i would double check the wires.. |

I've never serviced this trans at all, was confused because it hasn't done it before conversion. Maybe the fluid condition of trans was fine for old shifting patterns but can't cope with EL ECU demands? So never done the filter... Yeah I have wiring docs for both, thats how I did the change in the first place. One thing was that all EL ECU wiring docs I have just say S1 twice with no S2. So I tried swapping them around last night and it went 1st-3rd-2nd-4th hahahahaha, instead of 1st-2nd-3rd-4th...so that wasnt it...

if you have re wired the wires from the trans to the el ecu i would double check the wires.. Thanks for the reply Troyman, it's a matter of fact your post in the forums have provided half the knowledge for this whole thing. The TCM is no more, I transferred the wires to the EL ECU. Yeah I have checked them at the ECU 5 times. I haven't checked at the TCM where I got them from since I done it. As above I tried swapping a couple of the wires around to no avail. I tried another two, the S5 ones, and it just went into LHM. So overall I'm stoked it does 95% what its supposed to, in that it at least changes, and at the right speeds etc. A funny thing was that last night I put it into power ( which with the EL ecu is referred to as "normal mode" and is a 12V signal as opposed to the EA TCU's 0V) and it stopped revving out between changes. However continuing to be quite hard, seemingly less so though. Also I measured the S5 voltage while doing this and while in Economy mode the voltages were just a little over 12V on the changes, and in power were more like 13V. The torque is awesome though

By the way, here is the wiring I followed. I have checked it against the individual pinouts and it seems to be right...

never dealt with this myself but usually if every shift is hard it'd be S5 related as this sets the line pressure. double check this one.

Thanks for everyones help on this. IT IS NOW FIXED!!!!!
Finaly got around to my last resort before changing everything back to normal, testing resistance on every wire to make sure I'd hooked them up right. 6 wires through the testing, on the S5 wire, I got 18ohms resistance. So I ran a temp wire in its place and yeap! Smooth shifting! So happy right now Anyone who finds this thread whilst attempting a BBM and TCM to EL ecu conversion, feel free to PM me. Thanks again!

Ah dam I couldn't find you doco while I was trying it, but I did find that with your name in it somewhere along the way. Invaluable, thanks!
