I am currently building a 450-480 hp 351 cleveland for my xe fairmont and was wonder which automatic tranny would best suit my engine for mainly street use and the odd strip run , i have 3 spare c4's but i am thinking of a AOD 4 speed auto from '80 to '91 mustang

For drag racing and street the c4 would be good enough, they can handle your 450-480 hp no prob, especially with say a 3000 to 3500 stall converter and shift kitted etc,the AOD would be good as well, can handle a bit of power plus one more gear,i think last months Street Machine magazine has a article on the AOD ,specs, info etc plus they fit it to a old Ford, hope that helps...Vito.

XD/E close chamber cleveland, They were painted black, I think all the aussie 2V cc heads are the same? Ive got an AOD 4speed in my XC and it was a bit of a headache at first but after some investigation and fine tuning its a sweet street box. The overdrive lets me run short diff gears, and they bolt straight in.
