If you do a search you will find approx. 75% of the 6 cylinder workshop is taken up by this question.
The remainder 25% is mostly CAI and cam threads.

Your lucky!!
Id go with one centre muffler and a rear resonator, 2.5" all the way. You'll get a nicer exhaust tone and wont be too loud so it should be all good. Just get the flange on the cat modified to 2.5" outlet to suit the exhaust flange if the cat outlet isnt already 2.5", i wouldnt know as i my Fairmont doesnt have a cat Cat back exhausts like Lukey or Redback seem to be the most recommended. Not to sure on the prices as im over in NZ but im guessing you could pick up one at a good price of around $300. The guys on here will know more about that though. A nice set of pacemakers wouldnt be too bad either |

2.5" mandrel bent exhaust, single 'offset' straight through muffler. If you think its too loud, then its too easy to get a resonator welded on later down the track
then save for decent headers when you can |

ok tip one. go to glenroy exhaust they are expensive but work is A grade. 2. go for a system 2 1/2 with 1 muffler one resi. ive had both one with 1 muffler straight through tail pipe and it droned like a b**ch and hated it and it was way to loud. have that now. its loud and no drone note exhaust will get louder as it ages so once it comes out of the shop dont be like hmm its not loud enough just give it some time (thumbs up)

Quote: Your 17 and your missus is buying you an exhaust? f**k me, when I was 17 all I did was root and race motorbikes, about the only thing I got was maybe a slap in the face. took me a few years to find someone who would do something like that. then instead of her buying me stuff, all she did was take everything. even took my XB 2door and my house. almost 10 years later and I finally have someone who would buy an exhaust if I asked. All I can say is hold onto her!
I gotta agree with Ashcook on that one, shes definately a keeper |

when it comes to fitting off the shelf exhausts, being 'expensive' might as well be substituted for 'large profit margin' its pretty basic stuff to hang an exhaust off some rubbers when the car is on a hoist. Welding on flanges takes a couple minutes. My advice would be to find the workshop who can get the parts in the cheapest.... if by any chance theres a f**k (eg. exhaust hitting the floor), just take it back to them and they'll fix it |

is it silly for me to assume your talking about your fairmont? if so a ute exhaust won't fit.
But regardless it uses no name mufflers, if you're looking for dyno results later down the track use decent cats/mufflers/resi's, as this is where most of the restriction comes from. If your getting it mainly to sound good then its not such an issue.
