diff moves. up and down when changing from drive to reverse, any opinions?

I dont think you've diagnosed this correctly. I think your talking about the effect chaging gears has on the stally, which is normal.

i was buying the car at the time i wrote this post. i was very short, i now have the car, the diff centre pivets when you change from reverse to drive and back, also when the car changes gears, it makes a loud clunk noise which i first thought might have been the boot being left open, the counter balance that comes out the back of the diff center is what i think might be the problem, i think it is loose, you can spin it around and move it back and forth a little bit, it this counter balance ment to be loose, or do you think this is my pproblem?

the bolt through this counter balance/washer, or whatever it is...the bolt is threaded, something along that line, i cant get the bolt out of the diff as the spare wheel well is in the way, any ideas guys?

Gotta drop the cradle to change the diff bush.
Or drill a hole through your spare wheel well to do it in the car. That bush is common to go in BAs.

well my mate reckons it is the bolt itself that is threaded, not too sure bout that but, dont really wanna cut a hole in the well, how hard is it to drop the cradle?

car is at the mechanic atm, getting the rear cover for the diff, the bush, bolt and washer/counter balance replaced, bout $860 all up.

yea, lucky i got the car much cheaper then the asking price. still i was expecting it to cost more.
