PPL with EA-EDs out there. If ya want a bit more bottom end power. Take your car to the nearest exhaust place and get them to move your airflow sensor to behind the Cat. You will find better Take off

But the airflow sensor is on the intake ... from what I can gather.
Unless you are meaning oxygen sensor ... then I can understand that.

I'm guessing that putting it there somehow tricks the EGO sensor into seeing more oxygen than they're really is which causes the ECU to bump the mixture up to "compensate".

Well @ full throttle, or @ around about 80% and above actually, the signal from teh HEGO is ignored.
Also, cats are very sensitive to mixture. The HEGO will be reading lean and teh ECU will put more fuel in, so in 5000km, you're cat is going to be blocked up and you'll lose all that 'extra' power and be up for a new cat! |

trust me. i dont know how the f**k thing works but it makes a diff down low in the revs.

i can sorta know what you mean as it will run in closed loop mode in light load/throttle up to about 2100rpm in some cases (going by my a/f gauge) and the richer a/f would be the reason why. A drawback would be that the a/f would be richer at cruise and get worse economy.

You won't get any more power, in fact you will probably loose a fair bit. Behind the cats, the O2 sensor won't heat up enough to function properly (if at all) and the AF ratio will be so inaccurate you may as well not have it. If anything it will cause a fairly rich mix which will mean more fuel consumption and possibly less power. Add this to the problem that most I6's have a problem running rich in the first place, especially with any mods.

They do ... that is interesting indeed ... cos I think mine is running a bit rich ... I only have an upgraded exhaust though ... I notice it when I come to stop ... I can smell a bit of fuel ... not sure where it is coming from ... unless I can smell the rich exhaust mixture when I have the window open when I stop. That's probably what it is.

that is one of the more stupid things i've seen one the net for long time. i'm going to stress now that no one out there should do this. |

Post us a before and after dyno power graph and I'll believe you. As for now, you probably just 'think' it has made a difference, but if you want us to trust you, then trust me, it'll make a bigger problem than it's worth in a few short months. |
