91 Raider has an intermitent problem, some days it will start and run completly fine, then for no apparent reason it will just stop, trying to start it normally, just sends the battery flat, if you crank it with you foot pressed flat to the floor it will fire but not start.

the way i found to start it while it is like this, is to crank it floored, when it fires take your foot off the throttle then as it is trying to run (chug chug chug type thing) gently feather the throttle to bring the revs up, but even then it takes a solid 5-7 minutes of trying before it starts and runs, but once it gets running it runs fine.

things ive checked and replaced:

fuses both in engine bay and interior - fine
coil - checked and swaped - both fine
leads - old were stuffed, new ones made it run alot better
distributer cap - replaced
rotor button - replaced
Timing - done professionally (by Ford service dep)

checked the fuel line going into the engine, pleanty of fuel and pressure and i can smell it when im trying to start the mongrel.

it sounds like its not getting any fuel but the pressure is fine.

any ideas? anything else i should check?

oh one more thing, is there any trick to removing these tires or am i just not putting enough effort into it lol

are you getting lots of white smoke when it starts then? if so you could look at the head gasket letting coolant into the combustion chamber

no there is no smoke at all, the head gasket was replaced a few months back, along with a heap of seals.

i know you say you checked the fuel line, but is it efi , if so what about the injectors, or as i had happen a while ack my ecu played up, it stopped sending signal to one of the injectors, f**k that was a b**ch to track down.
maybe intermittent connection in the ecu cut a couple injectors or something.

if you have to keep the accelerater flat to the floor to start it means that the injectors are flooding the motor,so you are getting fuel.i would look at the ecu it will control the injectors.
