I have a 12 inch sub in an enclosed box.
I have heard people say face the sub toward the cabin, then I hear people face the sub into the back corner of the boot because it will have more angles to bounce off, which makes sense to me, but then I hear people say it all depends on what type of music you want to play, can anyone help me on this problem

What you do is put on what music you 'most' listen to, amp it up and play with sub placement and direction, see what suits you best, there is no right and wrong answer in theory.
BUT, the general consensus appear to be if you dont fold the rear seat down to hear the sub, face it toward the rear of the boot.

Generally how it goes is if you face the sub toward the front of the boot you are going to have better SQ (sound quality) and closer to the front of the car or cabin this setup is much suited toward a SPL (sound pressure level) setup.
But yeah just move it around and experiment, i have a custom made box so it sits infront of the LPG tank in the boot perfectly and it sounds very nice (check photo gallery) theres a pic in thier of what i have done, im happy with the SQ setup i have going atm.

Interestingly I found in the wagon, having the box placed behind the rear seat, angled at 45 degrees so the subs are facing the top of the rear glass gives the best sound. Anything else sounds horrible. Took me a while to figure that out. Its all trial and error.
In my sedan I've found that (with a similar sub and amp combo) having my subs facing directly up (at the boot lid) sounds narrowly better than having the subs facing the rear of the car.

different size drivers deliver different lenghts of throw (piont where sub bass peaks at) as all the others have said try different places in the boot until you find the sweet spot.
I have a 10" JL sub facing to the rear just before the spare tyre if its sat to the very front of the boot facing the same direction i lose alot of sub. |

If it werent for my stupid LPG tank i would have alot more bass but unfortunately the tank takes up the whole back part of my boot leaving about 5-8mm gap each side!!!
 Im still pretty happy where it is thou, but its not perfect.

I actually ended up swapping my 12" around to face the rear of the boot. It was pointing into the cabin, with the "40" seat folded down. *Huge* difference facing it into the boot, and folding that seat back up... More doof...
Which is strange, because my other half just got twin 12"s in her Magna, and they're pointing into the cabin, peaking through the cup holder hole in the seats, and they damn near rattle the car to peices! It's all about hearing what's best *in* the car... Trial and error...

i found with my 1 x 12" sealed setup the best position was facing the rear of the car with the box as close to the seats as possible.
with my 2 x 12" ported setup i've found its best behiind the seats facing the boot. the port is also facing the cabin. i lose maybe a max of 3 db having the seats folded up, but this happens no matter which way the sub is facing. yup, the 2 x 12's are in the car now, haven't gotten around to updating the thread and adding photos its not 100% done yet tho

Im still pretty happy where it is thou, but its not perfect.LPG tank is no excuse. I recently moved all my gear out of the waggin into my Fairmont Sedan, which is on LPG. In the sedan the system produces mind-numbing bass.. no questions asked. 10x better than it all sounded in the wagon!

It is in a way, if i had the box custom built to sit directly behind the seat facing toward the back of the boot it would sound a s**t better!
Unfortunately i had to get the box made up so it sits perfectly infront of my Gas tank without moving around. That alone cost me $200+ for just the box 
Would of been cheaper to..... Now im planning on completely redoing my boot, the floor is uneven so i plan to make it even and then the sub box needs to stay secure by bolting it down.
