Hi everyone, I think I may have just scored a freebie winner...

I just got a new driveshaft, it has the part number 96DTCA and faintly next to that is another sticker that very faintly says "South Africa" ????

It also looks like it has been balanced since it was new....

I'm told it is an EL XR8 driveshaft.. are they the same length as the i6 shafts??? Are manual and auto driveshafts the same length?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm collecting the bits I'll need and want to make sure I've got the right ones.

i think being a 96dt p/n it should be alloy..??

and the 6 cyl and v8 tailshafts are the same length with the same spline,ect...
also auto and manual shafts are interchangable....

the only exception is fairlane and wagon shafts are longer and obviously wont fit a sedan,,,

Yes, it is alloy... surprisingly light actually, it doesn't feel like it could handle the torque of a V8......

I was reading the thread about data's dyno drive shaft failure and it got me worried about mine..

Were Falcons exported to south africa? Or where the driveshafts made for ford in south africa?

yep falcons were exported to south africa but i dont know if they were assembled in australia or assembled in south africa???

but the tailshafts are still the same anyway...

I'm guessing a balanced alloy EL Xr8 shaft is about the best I can do with factory gear for my needs, at least being alloy it can't do as much damage if it self destructs..
