Hey all and welcome to my first post!!..
Well here is my problem that I am needing you opinion on.. I'm getting a fair bit of blue smoke when I first start my EB 4.0 in the morning.. I bought the car with a blown head gasket, which was replaced and the head and block were checked and found to be "true" and there appears to be no visible cracks in either.. I came to the conclusion that the valve stem seals were stuffed, so they were replaced.. Only issue is that, although the smoke issue isn't as bad as it first was, it is still there.. What else should I have a look at to figure out what is going on??.. Leaky injector maybe??.. It is definately blue smoke not clear white.. The car is using no water and very little oil (hardly noticable consumption).. Also there is no mixing of oil and water occuring.. It clears up after about 5 km of driving or about 10 mins at idle.. Thank in advance for your help.. |

well i would be going with valve stem seals as well
a leaky injector would give black smoke ( as in rich fuel mix ) blue smoke is oil! unless the rings are shot i would going back to teh shop and tellign them to fiox it

Thanks for the replies.. Did the job myself so no shop involved to take it back to.. Only had a shop check the head and block for warping..
Could it be leftover oil from soaking the seals??.. Only did the job yesterday and it only did it this morning.. I agree about the injectors.. Only reason I asked is that IIRC unburnt fuel also comes out as white smoke, but I will happily stand corrected.. |

Quick update for you all.. I started the old girl this morning and she still had issues.. The EB still had a smoke issue too!!..
Nah in all seriousness, I'm probably erring in the side of the guides for being my problem unless it is something else.. Is there a quick fix i could use to allay the smoke for a couple of weeks??.. An additive or something??.. Only need it to die down until I go on holidays from work.. |

Ok well here we go with a stupid question.. IF a small bit of gasket/old sealant was left on either surface at time of the head gasket change would this possibly give the same symptoms??.. I'm only clutching straws here, but I've tried most of the things mentioned but no love.. The only thing I haven't done is change the guides..

does it blow smoke when you have high inlet vacuum? ie when you use the gears to slow down?
if its valve stem seals it will blow smoke then also.. take it for a drive get upto say 60-70 and pull it back a couple of gears.. if it doesnt do it then id go looking elsewhere -mitch

I have no oil being dragged in to the inlet either.. Still not using any oil or water.. |

More than likely worn guides, if you've replaced the seals properly and still smoking then obviously oil getting down into combustion chamber from somewhere
Also do a compression test on your cylinders, if you have cracked ring or busted ring land it will show up in figures
