I had thought about registering my car up in NSW because of the EPA testing. Apparently the testing is free if it is at their request. You have to pay if at your request. Still cheaper though.

Once registered in NSW I was going to transfer rego to VIC, but the transfer process would mean I would need to re EPA test the bloody thing!!!

Thats exactly right, if anyone here lives in NSW and wants to make $100 and let me rego my car at your address then this will be much easier :)

Ran it past my mate tonight, he has spent $20k on rebuilding his 5L windsor (i assume its a windsor) and has it turbo'd running 350rwkw, tells me that (not sure if its for lpg and turbo but) that the [u]first[u/] EPA test is free.

He is currently getting his car complianced the same way im sure (lpg only turbo) so perhaps its true, ill call a place doing the EPA testing and confirm of course.

Does anyone have a number / the number, is there only one place in Vic (or was that WA) :P

Cheers

Wouldnt your mate have the number? This is going to go nowhere unless you find the VASS listing on the vicroads website and start making phone calls to people who can actually sign off on this stuff and give you the certificate you need. There is a fair chance that you mate ends up with a piece of paper not worth anything if his epa testing isnt costing him anything. Sounds like a dodgy 4 gas analyser test on a dyno by a gas place. This isnt going to make a (legitimate) engineer happy enough to say you passed the correct ADR's.

Im interested to know how this T04z you are getting was rebuilt. Who did the work? The last time I checked it was pretty hard to have them rebuilt and usually they required a new core which costs at least $1200.

You should post some pics of this T04z before you buy it so we can confirm what it is.

GCG turbos are selling to4z for $1850 brand new made to your specs, if the turbo is second hand id expect it to be $1000 alone not including the kit hmmm something very odd there.
I suppose it has a cheap a** $100 60mm wastegate too right, i dont mean to sound negative but im currently embarking on a turbo install and it aint cheap.
Let us know how she runs when its on mate

turbo installs can be done cheap... just has to be DIY, 2nd rate parts or 2nd hand parts.

and i call BS on the emmisions test being free first time around.

What is your idea of cheap?.

Im have gotten absolute bargains on some things but turbo and wastegate shouldn't be skimpd on.

my initial turbo install costed under $2k and was daily driven, 180rwkw on 6psi.

i disagree, i think there are bargains out there with regards to turbo's and wastegates, 2nd hand BA XR6 Turbo's can be had for under $1k with no need for buying an external wastegate.

alternatively, plenty of bush bearing T04's floating around that'll do a decent job.

its all about your ultimate aim, why buy a T04Z when you only want low 200's rwkw.

Mate i understand what you are saying especially in regards to the xr6 turbocharger BUT if its around $1000 id rather buy a BRAND NEW turbo that hasnt been flogged or what not.
The reason people go for such a big turbo is because sooner or later they will want more power, its better to cover your bases at the start may not be cheap or cost effective but you wont have to fork out more money later for a bigger turbo.
Im not having ago at you but when a to4e cost $550 second hand and is in need of repair the cost is more to fix it, it doesn't make sense to not buy it new for a little over a grand which can also be made for the engine its going on.
Second hand turbos work its been proven but i wouldn't trust the life it has had and or poor maintenance so you take that gamble.

its always a gamble... but its hard to justify spending $5k on something you can do for 1/2 that.
some people have aims that far exceed what they would be able to get 2nd hand, other have aims that would be in reach with some cheap 2nd hand gear.

I've gone 2nd hand twice now and can't complain.
