now guys been doing more and more research and it looks like im going to go for the wade 1636 reground so ill have to shim it. question one. how many shims should i use when installing. 2. dialing in the cam. if i have tdc and the chain doesnt skip a tooth why would u need to dial it in because the cam has a notch which it slides into :S i will not be using a vernier gear. help would be great.

1. every rocker arm has a factory shim, you need to add another one the same size.
2. dont worry about dialling in cams for now, just focus on fitting it correctly. |

As FordFairmont said...don't worry too much about dialing in, might confuse you.
To dial it in, you will need a vernier camshaft sprocket and a special tool to measure clearance/degrees of something I forget. Just focus on getting the cam in correctly and the timing chain not to skip a tooth as well as getting the tensioner correct so not to break any guides. phong =P~

The extra shim is in there to match the altered height of your Wade cam. These cams are regrinds made by machining old cams to different specs. The shims compensate for the metal removed in the regrinding process. Your old factory cam was made to suit the original shims only and you can't leave extra shims in there - that would be like putting two feet in one shoe
Incidentally, I'm not sure but the Tickford cam may have required different shims to those used with stock cams - when I fitted my 1636 I used two 1.9mm shims per lifter (the stock ones plus an extra set). There are a few different shim sizes.
