Howdy

Today I installed lows in my wifes EB. Went for a drive to settle them in and all went well. Parked it, got changed and went back out when all of a sudden turning either direction from straight would result in some serious engine miss, just like it was running on 3 cyls. Thinking it may be fuel, I nursed it to the gas station as chucked $20.00 in. No difference - straight line fine, turn a corner and the missing takes over until I am straight again.

Does anyone have any idea what the hell might be going on? I can replicate it sitting in the driveway by just turning the wheel and trying to rev when in park....

Cheers
RD

Hmmm, that would cause the miss? If it turns out to be that I will change it when I do the engine/trans as I have another rack going in at the same time....

I see how it could be the PS switch not sending the right signals to the ECU. Would just the act of installing lows into the front suspension put an extra load on the power steering causing an old switch to fail? This car is pretty tired so I wouldn't be surprised....

Uh oh... I suspect the engine might have given up the ghost. It has had a rumble in the bottom end for a while and would blow smoke under accel. When it goes into this missing mode, blue smoke cascades out the back. I did try the car this morning and the miss (read 2 or 3 cyls running) appeared without turning anything. It cleared, backed it down the driveway (sloping) and tried to drive away. No go, 2 or 3 cyls only and lotsa smoke....

Time for that engine change me thinks....

Well it seems you were on the right track. I just replaced the map sensor with one out of my donor EB and it seems to have fixed it. Well, at least I am able to drive around the corner and back on all 6 cylinders. Am a bit wary of going any great distance but will try a little further (somewhere not far to walk back from :)) to double check.

Nope, straight petrol. I am surprised the map sensor just up and died between runs, one minute it was working fine, next minute running on 3 cyls. Really strange.....

Thanks matey but I got one out of my spare EB. Just went up to McGraths Hill with no problems at all so everythng seems to be fine.

Yup, we have spoken before, it was to do with your car. Still considering some bits if you still have it :) Gotta decide what I really need.

Cheers

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! It's back intermittently. Every now and again it happens when turning left only. Total pain in the butt and really starting to piss me off now.
