Hi guys,

i am taking the pin stripes off my NC fairlane, the cars paint is absoltely shmick so i dont want to cause it any harm

i have starting using the heat gun to loosen the stripe, peeled it off but this leaves you with the glue. i have then been struggling and scrubbing with wax and grease remover (similar to prepsol i think) and although this is working it it taking a very very long time.

does anyone have any experience with a better way of removing the glue without causing damage?

Take the car to a panelbeater/spray painters and they will use whats known as a "Caramel Wheel". It removes glue and other sticky residue from paint without harming the paint in any way providing it's done properly (Not keeping it in one place for too long). The caramel wheel is also used for removing pin striping. It shouldn't cost very much, But if you wish to do it yourself then I would recommend using Eucalyptus Oil.

get some eucalyptus oil.. that stuff dissolves glue like nothing on earth.. but test a hidden spot first to make sure that it doesn't take the surface off the paint too. (I'd be very surprised if it did.)

I've used this heaps of times on stickers and removed the glue from the pin striping on my old EA and my uncles ED without any paint damage. So i'd say you'd be fine with it.

either eucalyptus oil or Tolulene. Tolulene wont damage paint like thinners or turpentine but will cut through industrial glue
