Which one of the fan relays is for the high speed?
It would be nice to know what each relay does, my manual has no info on what relay does what.

both relays are identicle, its the input power from the ECU that differs, one way is to find out which fan turns on low and trace the wireing back to the relay, or get a multi meter and test the current from each relay.

There are 4 relays in total, 2 four pin relays and 2 five pin relays

Doesn't the EF have FOUR and the EL have three?
I had the same issue- The drivers side fan would never go to high speed. I just pulled all four relays out and swapped the whole lot with my donor car. Only downside to that is I still don't know which relay it was, otherwise I could tell you. The EF's have more options than the EL and AU - They can have NO FANS, or FAST and SLOW fans on each fan, where as the AU's only do fast on both at the same time. Therefore, there is an extra relay. Hey, Green Emission dude --- Replace relay one and three is it's the drivers side (which it is most likely)... There's an easier to follow thing around somewhere...
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/Thermo-F ... g-d54.html There it is. Knock yourself out, all explained there. Probably relay one as this is the only one that specifically changes when both fans are meant to be high speed.... Although, just go get a set of relays from an old wreck and start swapping.... Hey COMMANDO... Do you have an AUT 1994 FUTURA as well by any chance? What is the difference between the AUT and the EF? And did Ford actually release the AUT and then think the changes weren't quite enough to warrant a whole new title, so went backwards to the EF?.... Just how many AUT Futuras were made? I asked Ford Aussie, and they said they don't have records of that... WTF? Surely you'd know how many you made of something - for ever. Maybe they're secretly still making them in India or something and rebadging them as Jaguar's?

Fiend -I have not heart of an AUT whatever. I think Ford cut a lot of corners on the EL perhaps to make it cheaper - who needs 2 speed fans anyway? Same deal with the distributorless ignition. A lot of mechanics are happier with a distributor.
I have a '94 Futura with a Fairmont dash CC etc. |

I, too, have a ''94 Futura with a Fairmont dash CC etc. Although it has been in the panel and paint shop for two weeks and I am getting bored beyond belief with little to do. Have all these plans for putting a manual in, and not quite getting there due to having no transport (not to mention the money I'm loosing on not doing those little building jobs!)
The AUT did come out before the EF but after the ED. Maybe it was just a designation that came to New Zealand, as it is a NZ new stationwagon. Have a look through this... http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=69180 I like the EF's over the EL's. One day I'll put a AU motor in... One day...! |
