i have heard also that they benifit greatly from getting rid of the restrictive intake pipe and a good afterarket exhaust.
my cousin has a g220 with a cat back and i think something that would help it greatly is a set of diff gears. once it gets moving it pulls really hard but it just needs to get the weight off the line. i think a set of 3.9s or something would be a great help. very good engines, smooth and torque, his runs a 15 flat in complete standard trim with average tyres |

Do you realise that even with 4.11s fitted the total rpm would be less than 2400rpm at 100km due to overdrive, so tell me how it would make it a pos to drive around the "streets"? With just 3.23 ratio fitted without overdrive using a standard height Falcon tyre, it would nearly give you 2700rpm, been there done that, it is shocking on the hwy. My age? says to the left under my name! your point? i know that cause ive had a FMX before and yes it was a pain in the a*** on the freeway. you where just winging about driveability?

My point was it wouldnt be a a** to drive. 2400rpm was about the common rpm many pre bw4 sp autos ran at. The two most common bw diff ratios were 2.77 and 2.92. So if you used 4.11 it wouldnt make it a bastard to drive, just thirsty on the hwy and still smooth as around town unlike any old school na small capacity V8 pushing 1800+kg doing 12s.

then you cant really be that interested...
small capacity compared to some motors maybe but those motors dont have 32 valves and quad cams ill bet.... several shops have these motors running in the 12s now and i believe i saw an add the other day for a fairmont 3v in the 11s |

CV performance has a drive in and out service that will have a 3v seeing high 12's.

and is this with a completely stock engine with just the stated tune?

Stock as in unopened engine with bolt ons such as extractors/exhaust and an upgraded inlet pipe tract to a larger cold air intake. Probably need a different set of diff gears and if auto, a different torque convertor. After these, tune up time. Original engine = no unbolting rocker covers, removing heads, playing with cams etc.
A very underestimated engine with plenty of potential. |

Record for a N/A unopened 3v is 12.58 for an auto, I believe manual record is 12.71.
Mods for the auto were... BPR cai Full Di Fillipo exhaust Underdrives BluePower tune 4.11 LSD 4 sp auto with 3000 stall Now these times are in full race trim (so interior out and a few other bits n pieces) with slicks and front runners. For a 3v in full street trim average times are around mid to high 13s, put some Micky Thompsons on and you're looking at low to mid 13s. |

xt3valve from here is 12.7 or something but thats with a BPT PD blower but still on a unopened engine with 3.4 track wheelspin.

thats what made me a bit suss about this to start with, that his was doin 12;s with a charger, and others are getting it with a unopened n/a engine i think gears and stall would prob see alot better times, oh and a lokka at least in the diff, single peger lol

nah gears for him will kill it needs some suspension tuning and slicks and hello getting kicked out from teh plex for running too fast.
need a cage if quicker than 10.9 or something IIRC and with some traction hook up should see 11's easy as pie.

This is the problem with quoting the specs of an engine and nothing else.
The whole combo needs to be taken into account. Quite often a car will be capable of going much faster but suspension, gearing, weight and tyres are not ideal. For instance I don't care much for drag racing so I never set my car up for it properly, therefore I never realise the full potential. |
