hey guys i had a little issue on the way home today when i just lost all power threw out the car i went to the battery to check the termonals and burned my hands on the termonals there were burrning hot. i grabbed a spanner and un done the negative termonal and pulled it off the post and when i went to put it back on it arch big time like putting the possitive and negative which lead me to thing a major wire is earthing out what i tryed dissconnecting the alternator and the arching went away which is what bring me to testing my alternator. i removed it from the car and noticed the main power termonal appears to be touching the housing do i dismantled the alternator and grab a drill bit and tapped the hole out 2mm so there a visiable gap. but then i test continuity from the termonal to the housing it goes off like it directly connected so this would mean the alternator stuffed???

i also tested main termonal to head sinks and there good circuit which is bad right???

thx jason

Some pics would be nice but it sounds like the main battery feed to your alternator has burnt out the insulator .You may have had a loose connection and every time the alternator charges small sparks grow into big sparks and the insulator melts and you end up with your problem.so you are up for a new or reco'ed alternator, new terminal on your cable and possibly a new fusible link.Any questions ?feel free Kevman
