im pretty sure it should be sitting at around 650 - 700, on a standard motor that is.

About 650 - 700. You should be concerned with the cause of your high RPMs 6 months ago.

phong =P~

Yea well at stock it should be at that rpm (650 - 700) however as phongus pointed out you should be a bit concerned if it was running at a higher rpm then dropped after afew months. make sure you keep an eye on it.
may even be that when you put on the demister or a/c that can cause some fluctuation but i dont think it would be that high.

when in park or neutral (assuming your cars auto)
it should idle around 850
in gear it should idle around 700.

maybe 6 months ago you just checked when it wasnt in gear..?

well its manual , yes i noticed the difference when the a/c is on , but after going up and down the gears and then come to a stop , now it tends to flutter between 650-900

sounds like you're having the same problem i used to have with the s**t emissions control...

Unplug the ISC and bump up the revs for that cold start.

Mine revs between 700-850 (cold-warm), it will hang at 1000rpm for a second then drop to a constant rev

Would an older 4cyl motor tend to idle higher?
My 5sp Pintara sits on the 1000rpm line generally, but fluctuates between 800 and 1100. Depending on the temp outside.
