yeh, dont paint them. I know someone who painted them white and it just looks like a pov pack with a xr front. Atleast remove them and store them in the shed and just sacrifice some black gli ones instead.

Think about it, paint the red ones and there gone. Paint some povo pack ones and atleast the red ones are still there if you change your mind.

Hey I'd personally go to any cheap wrecker, i got a set of el mont ones for 10 bucks(mmm, chromme) at my local self serve(admittedly half the time i don't even pay their), If you were in QLD I have a full set of black gli ones you could have, haha. maybe even get some off a white ef mont if you can.

but yeah as the above have said don't paint the red xr ones, pretty much means your committed to it, and if you well and truly were that decided on it, I'm sure someone would trade.

I know I saw a gunmetal grey elxr colourcoded, that looked f**k s**t, not sure how white would be though, but thats me.

I've taken my red stripe off my AU because it was fading and instead of replacing it i just left it. Looks much cleaner. Comes down to personal opinion i suppose.

Anyway, to take off the red stripe if it's simply stuck on like a badge all you do is use a hair dryer on low heat. Slowly begin heating the stripe up in small sections about 30cm away. This is important because if it's too hot or too close it will leave an ugly brown burn stain on ur body work and u wouldn't want that! Once you've heated up a small section for 20 seconds or so you should be able to slowly pull the stripe off. If your having trouble pulling it off use some fishing wire to slide behind it and in a saw motion cut the glue holding it to the body, this should be relatively easy if the glue has been warmed up by the hair dryer, u'll see what i mean.. It may leave a sticky residue but eucalyptus oil or metho on a cloth with a bit of elbow grease will surely get it off.

Hope that helps.

Find out from ford how much the red ones are new - guaranteed to put you off painting them. Last time I checked they were still available - not sure currently though.
The red fading can be restored: http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=56121 .

I tried a bit off t cut to start but didn't do that great of a job so then i use 800grit wet and dry used a heap of water with it then polished them again with t-cut. They come up heaps better then before.

theres a member on here by the name of Aurora 98. He owns a car detailing business in Adelaide, and i believe he has restored red stripes on a Falcon to better then new with some of his products.

i think his sticky thread is at the top of Exterior Modifications.
