Hey all... Not that I done much exterior mods, I was wondering how many people have removed there outside door trims molds, the ones that run on the lower doors that are alighned with the front and back bumpers.
I happened to knock off the small rear one next to the rear wheel arch, and think it could look alright with them all gone . Also, what are they held on with? .. just double sitted tape thats going to take forever to get off? . lol. anyone done it? .. got any pics?... also, whats the best way of removing them? . cheers, antony. |

cheers, antony. That depends on who put them on, a lot of panelbeaters use urethane or silicone to glue them on. If they are just double sided tape, you should be able to just peel them off, Iv'e never seen double sided tape damage the paint before, it usually splits down the middle. You can wipe the glue of the door with prepsol, eucalyptus oil, lemon essence etc. Same problem with any sticker removal, if your paint is faded it will show up

I was going to do it but I thought I might start getting a few more Carpark door dings as that strip seems to be the only thing stopping me Falcon getting severe ones I reckon. But I think they look better taken off lighter coloured Falcons I reckon too

I can't speak for the longer ones in the doors but I replaced the side indicator moulds on my Fairmont a while back and all we did to get the old ones off was use hot water to loosen the tape and petrol to clean the remaining gunk off. Petrol's probably not the best solvent to use near car paint so I'd recommend finding something else

motospray prep wash works a treat to get glue residue of paint, may need to use a plastic spatula but a rag should be fine.
used this on the extaxi with side stickers.

Ive just peeled mine off the ED. Was able to pull them off by hand on a hot day with no further assistance. But they were glued on with silicone which wont come off. So ill be painting them and sticking them back on.

heat them up first of the tape wil stick to the car and will take forever to get off, took me about 6 hours to pick the tape of the side of my car
good thing to heat it up with is a hair dryer |

Thinners will dissolve the cured silicone, but you need to be careful, don't rub too hard.
