im bleeding the brakes on an AU ute and noticed this thing in the brake circuit....
do i have to do anything different? also i suspect the master cyl is stuffed and may need replacing....the catalog says its a different MC for the ute to the sedan....reckon ok to fit a sedan one?

more than likely a load sensing device abd brakes should bleed as normal no need to worry

as above, its a load proportioning valve.
More weight in the back, it gives more fluid to the rear brakes. Its best to have these adjusted when lowering a ute, otherwise the rears can lock up (easier) under heavy braking.

Yeah basically the more weight you have the more effective your brakes will be in the back, I asked a similar question when I first saw it on my mates lux.

XG's & XH's had the load sensing fitted on the one tonne models - AU's are probably similar.
'E' sedans/XG/XH utes/vans have the same split point, 'E' wagons have a higher pressure split with the master cylinder proportioning valve. So if you replace a master cylinder, make sure the split point is the same - it's normally stamped on the large offset nut on the mast cyl front. Any brake place should be able to tell you if the AU sedans/utes have the same split point.

my little bit of research has come up with :
1 tonne utes dont seem to have a proportioning valve in the MC instead it has this load sensing one at the back near the axle... sedans, wagons and 3/4 tonne utes all seem to have different proportioning valves... at least thats what ive worked out from my gregories manual (dont trust it but)... as for interchangeability Im not sure
