Might just be a form of sound deadening, i mean a cloth isn't hard enough or sealed enough to be used to make a speaker box.

what kinda speakers?
if it's inside a sub box and it's white and fluffy, it's just dacron filling, supposedly to fool a sub into "thinking" or acting as if the box is a little larger, but it's not an exact science, and it's a matter of opinion as to wether it works or not if it's just a thin flat panel, it may be an aperiodic membrane..... f**k if i know how an AP membrane works, but from what i've read, they're a bit of a b**ch to set up right otherwise, i'd guess the fabric you're talking about is a waterproof fabric put over the back ofthe speaker as a splashguard in doors

There is another type of technique used for installing a sub, where they put a skin on the front cone, and behind the magnet / basket. I'm not all that sure of it, although it is supposed to make the best quality sound. There was an article in a HOT4's once (yeah I know, leave it alone).
I'm not even sure what it's called. Look it up? |
