Hi all,
I am going to strip the ABS from my fairmont wreck and fit it to the GLI/fairmont conversion. I searched and there is lots of "has anyone done a doco yet" sort of stuff but no doco. I will take a heap of photo's as the whole project proceeds and we will see if I can help others and vice versa. Cheers, Richard

hahah WAY more that that i did this to happys car few things u will need to swap the entire interior loom u need the wiring loom from the abs to the ecu add teh abs sensors = new front rotors ( u have ) u will need to replace the rear axles from donor car also need all the abs brake line pipe work all steel pipes are basically removed and replaced i think the BEM is changed as well took a few of us blokes ( mainly me doing th mech side ) a day

IIRC All a non ABS GLI has is the sensor plug for the front RHS sensor - that's about it. Also the line to the diagnosis connector for pulling the codes is there - but it ends at the LHS connector near the airbox fan behind the dash.
The BEM has nothing to do with ABS, so changing it is not necessary.

I am going to change the ENTIRE loom if I have to. There is also the front uprights to swap for the sensor mountings. I was going to swap the rear axle for the hopefully LSD if I am lucky. Still haven't had a good look at the tag numbers. So the basic list is....
1. Engine & Trans,(starting to think about BF dual cam) 2. Full interior, roof lining etc 3. Door electrics and trims,( picked up a set of woodgrains) 4. ABS system and lines, 5. Full loom, 6. BEM, 7. Leather steering wheel,(worn but no rips) 8. Bonnet, 9. Combination switch unit, 10. Full Dash, 11. Cruise control, 12. Climate control system,(big job on its own) 13. Front bumper, 14. Headlights, 15. Front suspension, 16. HD rear springs and axel, 17. Mags and tyres, ( really want to find some nice 17's for cheap) 18. I am wanting to upgrade braking with bigger discs and calipers but don't want to spend up big. whatever other bits and pieces.

Finally got started this week. The physical ABS system is easy. The wiring is a pain as it is dash out. The wheel sensors entails a lot of work. If I wasn't doing the complete fairmont body swap already i wouldn't get this carried away. ABS is nice but spending money on a big brake upgrade would be more beneficial....
I guess if it saved your life it is worth it.... or better than a wheel chair for life... etc etc.

actually the wiring loom is easy. its all the other stuff in the way, dash, engine, air con, sound damping etc LOL
I hope I get it all back together with no squeaks. My other wagon has had a squeak in the dash forever. I will fix it oneday.
