Okay, got a question for you all, I recently got my EF sedan and transpalanted the sub/amp/hu out of my old excel. Problem is due to all the extra sound deadening used in falcons compared to excels I'm not getting much bass. I was looking at the boot the other day and noticed the hole in the parcel shelf where the sub goes in for the premo system.
Question is, can I cut the MDF looking stuff and carpet and slot a grille over the hole?? Seeing as though I'm not cutting metal I can't see any legal problems. Any Ideas?? |

you can do anything you like just about as long as you don't cut at the parcel shelf in any way.

no problem with it at all, the cars that had premium sound had a sub with a grill under the carpet there

It's not MDF, is some soft fibre material that is already perforated. Just grab it from underneath and pull it down. It will come out easily.
After that all you need to do is cut the carpet.

thanks for the replies, I already removed the fabric stuff, helped a little, Now to attack the carpet with the trusty old stanley knife.

can you let us know the outcome? in terms of the sound quality?
also, what sub/amp have you got running? (if it's good.. i might do it too ) |

I did that in my old ED Fairmont, and it made a bit of difference, but not all that much sound quality wise. It was louder but i had 2 x 12's and they were Free-air subs, so more than likely, just let them 'breathe' a bit better.

Its legal to do it that way. Cutting into metal is the illegal part.

Only running a cheapo amp and sub for now, they did the job in the excel. Haven't had time to get around to getting some more high quality gear.
Removing the sound deadening helped a little, will keep everyone posted on the result of the knife work, but I got to pick up a grille first. It's an 8inch hole right?? |
