G'day, I'm hoping to put a V8 in the XL if possible, but I'm still a bit confused regards to legalities.

My thoughts are to get a V8 NC Fairlane donor car

and drop the whole conversion in, includeing the 4spd, to replace the 2spd.

I was also hoping to put in the running gear if possible, to gain discs etc.

Anyway, so I'm wondering if anybody can give me any knowledge/advice, with regards to this, particularly legalities, and ADR's vs pre adr's, eg would it now require seatbelts?

Secondly I'm also hoping to weld up the rear doors and set it up as a delivery type pano plate up all the back etc.
has anybody done a similar conversion, how did they get it legalized registered. etc.

Also does anybody know any engineers etc. in QLD that would be experienced in this sort of stuff.
Thanks a heap in advance for any help.

Joel, you need to get in touch with a guy in Victoria named Adrian Seelenmeyer, he does conversion kits for early mustangs and falcons, he will know everything you will need to know, and he has lots of conversion parts/kits available. Do a google search for his contact details, i dont think he has a website.
As far as the body mods go, being such an old car you could probably do whatever you want and just tell the rego people "that was how you bought it" and as it doesnt have a compliance plate i doubt they would even care. Mechanically, you will have to get a mod plate fitted, but a v8 early falcon conversion is very common, so a lot of places will be able to pass it for you.
Good luck, and let me know if you need any XF front end bits, brakes, etc.
Cheers,
Grant.
