Not having $5000+ to respray my wagon, I am wondering how much paint would I need to cover 4 doors, a fuel flap and a wagon rear hatch?
I found out today that my donor car and the project car are actually different by quite a significant amount. Didn't actually realise unti the two were parked together within the same space. My plan is to use all the parts above of the donor for my ED and am thinking about trying it myself once I buy a compressor and painting gear. Any advice appreciated. Cheers RD

if u have never sprayed before DONT
at least take a spray course in learning how to spray with new paint it will NOT match, due to colour fade and how u mix and spray the paint ( i have seen the same base colour show up around 10 diff ways due to spraying pressures, thinner rations, incorrect spray techniques etc ) and at a guess 2-3litres of paint then there would be the same in clear also most clears run a hardener so that needs to be done as well as buying the thinners then the spray equipment $140 for a decent gravity fed gun u will need a GOOD compressor non of this s**t stuff 15cfm would be the best then a water trap and around 15 mtrs of hose ie compressor --> 5 mtrs or so of hose --> water trap ---> more hose and spray gun cant see u gettign away with under 1k for everything then u have to spray it... and if u f**k it u start again

Thanks. I should have indicated that I am not a 5 year old when it comes to painting, Just haven't sprayed any cars....
Thanks for the outline. I may see if I can buy the paint and do a deal with someone to do the spraying. Everything would be seperate from the car so could be delivered to have the job done. I have already found a place in Sydney that will colour match to the car so it would be closer than buy stock paint. Cheers RD

ya cool no worries
just be carefull some ppl will not spray with the colour supplied also with colour matchign it is sometimes a good idea to let them have the whole car as they can "dust" over parts of the old paint to allow a more even flow of colour change so it becomes less noticeble best bet is to fit the parts to your car and go and speak to a few spray painters AND find soem spray paint supply shops a few guys in them do cahs work on the side and are usually qualified spray painters

Thanks again Disco
I *am* going to fit all the bits to the car now, Mrs RD told me not to be stupid about the slight colour difference (the donor is C2 Regency Red and mine is G5 Cardinal Red) and live with it until I get it painted. She said at least it isn't drastically different like blue or green or yellow or something. I'll scope out a few paint shops and see what they can do and for how much. I'll also go off and visit that paint place for match info..... ... or I could just wait and paint the whole bloody thing a totally different colour, like Cherry Red or something Maybe I can get the car done in sections like our friend fiend from across the Tasman Cheers RD

I have just about finished mine, but it wasnt a colour change, just fixing up the peeling clear coat, and it i have done it with a litre of colour and a litre of clear, but will need more clear to get it right. This did all four doors and the drivers front guard, as well as half the left rar quarter. And i have never painted before in my life.

You had all the painting gear already though didn't you?
