Ok I have a 4L EBII Falcon auto

and a 302w Capri with a C4

Both violently shift into reverse.. my capri actually can chirp the tyres when I select reverse *THUWMP!* when it goes in..

my falcon6 goes *THUWMP!* also when I put it into reverse.. and when it's cold it will often instally die when I put it into reverse to back out the drive.

Any ideas as to these obviously seperate cases of similar problems?

Checked Uni joints? also, you should take a look at the bushing in the rear extension housing of the transmission, could be worn?

Always easy to check the CHEAPER things :)

well the uni joins and the mounts etc are all new on the capri.. I know C4's are a bit clunky but it's crazy to thunk into gear hard enough to chrip the 235's on the back.

falcon stuff is pretty worn out.. I've checked trans fluids but seems strange that when it's cold it dies selecting reverse. I now back it up driveway when I get home so in the morning I can just drive out forwards!
